Foals should be registered within 6 months of birth, or before 30th November, whichever is sooner, in order to comply with DEFRA regulations. Owners must have the foal microchipped before applying for a passport.
Anyone wishing to register a foal should complete and return the Foal Registration Application Form along with the registration fee. On receipt of this form, the DNA kit will then be sent out with the silhouette form for the vet to complete. The completed silhouette and DNA kit are then returned to the office. The application form can also been downloaded from the link on this page.
If anyone has any questions on this process, please email the Office - secretary(at)britishconnemaras.co.uk
In order to encourage breeders to stay within this legislation, the BCPS charge a levy of £25 per registration for any foal registered after 30th November in the year in which it was born.
A Member shall be entitled to register with the Society a distinctive prefix for life, which cannot be used by another person except a person taking over a herd from its previous owner who has given his written permission to the Secretary for the prefix to be transferred. The prefix is for the exclusive use of the breeder and must be added to the name of all animals which he breeds.
Please see BCPS Rules 2.10. The relevant application form may be downloaded from this page.
