BACK TO REGIONS

Eastern Connemara HunterTtrial 30th March 2008

After an extremely poor week of weather, the tension was running high, about the condition of the course, and the pending weather for the day.
As the dawn broke, on Sunday the 30th March, the relief was clear, on Debbie’s face ,as the sun came out, and the lorries started to roll in.  The time and effort, that she had put into running, the show, was apparent for all to see, The entries secretary was eagerly awaiting, with her pen and cash tin ready ,the chefs  had the bacon and tea on the go, and the competitors, were all full of eager anticipation, with there number bibs, gripped tightly in the palms of their hands.

Whilst walking the course, it was lovely to see that all fences, were well built and sturdy, just like they should be, and although this is a starter course at a max of 2ft 3in, there were questions for the ponies to answer. Each fence was well numbered and well flagged, and the going could not have been better. ( not a bit of mud in sight) Even after the 76 entries finished jumping, the take off areas, were still as good , as at the beginning of the day.  A real credit to the organisers,  for their first event.

The whole day went without a hitch, a couple of fallers, but no injuries, the only thing that could have been better, was a higher entries of  Connemaras.

There were only five pure bred Connemaras, but the good thing was, that they did brilliantly in all classes.

Class 1 highest placed Connie was Bardsey Serena, rider Izzy Keene in 6th place.
Class 2 highest Connie was Princess Juliette, rider Sam Richardson in 2nd place.
Class 3, highest Connie was Bardsey Serena, rider Charlotte Sanderson in 5th place.
Class 4, highest Connie was Fenrose Cormac, rider Tracy Edwards in 2nd place.
Class 5, highest Connemaras were Princess Juliette and Fenrose Saile, with Sam and Janet Richardson, (mother and son team) who came 2nd.

As you can see the Connie's pulled all the stops out, and were in the rosettes, in every class. The prizes were fab, as the top six, got a tub trug, full of carrots, and the bucket colours matched the colour of your Rosette, ( what a lovely touch) and the Connemaras, got a highest placed Connie Rosette, for each class.

Dorothy Anne was present, at the show, with the Connemara stand, after travelling, many miles to be there. Her dedication to the breed, is second to none, and a Connemara show would not have been complete without her.

After a successful show Debbie has set up two more dates to put in your diaries,

31st August - Hunter Trial
5th October - One Day Event

So come on you Connie's, come and join in, It is a starters course, so there are no excuses!!!! Take a look at the photos on www.kkgphotography.org.uk
and you will see the lovely fences.

A lovely day was had by all, so come and be a part of it.!!!!

Of the shows held at Horseshoe Farm the final and probably the most successful day was the Novice One Day Event. This event was open to all native ponies and their friends, and judging by the number of entries, natives have many friends in all shapes and sizes.

Connemaras won four of the eight classes, proving yet again how versatile these lovely family ponies are Hearnesbrook Venus won the junior starter class with 12 year old rider James Chadwick, this was the ponies first One Day Event, she is sure to have a great future as a competition pony. Another junior, Charlotte Rodwell with Lucky Prince had the best dressage and kept the lead to win the junior novice class.
In the Junior Open Emma Girling with Lakeview Silverstar jumped a double clear to win over the bigger course.  In the adult classes Sally McCall with her lovely Connemara Ryan won the novice class and took home The Truly Scrumptious Trophy awarded by Bill and Angela Woods.

Although dates haven’t been set yet, these shows were very popular so hopefully will be held again next year.

The region also held a One Day Event in conjunction with an event at Ely Eventing Centre by kind permission o Mrs Ure. Several Connemaras were well placed overall, Miami Gold, Ridden by Chloe Hunnable winning the 3’ ODE For full results see the Eastern region Web site.
