Over the summer you may have heard whispers of 2027 being a big year for the BCPS. In addition to THE book, a bumper edition of the chronicle, another year of super area shows, and an extra special breed show.......

A BCPS calendar will soon be available in the shop!

Great news

Congratulations to the wonderful Kate and Nick at Holnest ConnemarasNick Walters was also a very deserving recipient of the AnimalWeb Good Horsemanship Award at the recent Dorset County Show.

We spent time observing Nick with his young Connemara, Holnest Mailin, throughout the morning, both in and outside the ring, and we were genuinely impressed by the kindness, patience and quiet confidence he showed towards his young pony.

Whenever Mailin became a little worried by something, Nick never seemed to rush or put pressure on the pony. Instead, his calm and reassuring manner gave Mailin the time and confidence needed to process what was happening. It was lovely to watch, and a real example of how much difference a kind and thoughtful handler can make to a young horse’s experience.

Nick and his wife Kate, of Holnest Connemaras clearly breed some beautiful ponies, and it is evident that the care and preparation they provide is very much a joint effort. While Nick was the one we observed handling Mailin so thoughtfully on the day, the confidence and good manners shown are also a reflection of the time, consistency and care that both Nick and Kate invest in their young ponies from the very beginning.

Together, they are giving these ponies the very best possible start in life, creating a calm and supportive foundation that helps them develop into confident, willing and well-rounded individuals. Seeing the way Nick handled Mailin gave us real confidence that the work he and Kate do at home is centred around the ponies’ welfare, understanding and long-term development.

Those early experiences matter enormously, and the patience, trust and kindness shown by Nick and Kate will undoubtedly help shape the sort of pony Mailin becomes in the future.

This is exactly what good horsemanship looks like to us, always putting the young horse first, building confidence through kindness and understanding, and giving them the very best possible foundation for their future. We were genuinely delighted to recognise the joint effort behind Mailin’s progress, and hope you both realise just how much your approach matters.
