Eventing

Introduction

Started in 2018, our prestigious Eventing Championships have celebrated the versatility of the Connemara Pony as a performance breed. Since then, the Championships have grown over the last few years: in 2021, over 100 pure-bred and part-bred Connemaras entered the Finals from over 40 qualifier One-Day Events (ODEs) nationwide, with competitors coming from as far afield as Truro and the Orkney Islands!

The Championships are also evolving in scope. 2021 saw the introduction of a 70cm course at the Finals, meaning that we now have four Championship height sections: 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and 100cm. We hope soon to be able to spotlight our brilliant juniors with the introduction of U16 sections to the 70cm, 80cm and 90cm Championships.

To qualify you must either gain a top 10 placing or ONE double clear at the same height at any unaffiliated event (BRC, PC & NSEA ODEs included). Results must be from October 2023 – September 2024. Height at 70cm, 80cm, 90cm & 100cm.

You do not need to be a member of the BCPS to qualify but membership will be required to enter the Championship. Open to registered pure and partbred Connemaras.

Please email proof of qualification to katewalters@holnest.com and she will send you your qualification card.”

How to qualify

We have decided, after a lot of our qualifiers unfortunately were cancelled due to hard ground or lack of entries in previous years, we will not be putting on specific qualifiers, but allowing you to choose where and when to compete on your ponies.

We will  be accepting any results from any unaffiliated One Day Events (ODE) or Horse Trials (HT)  which runs events at 70cm, 80cm, 90cm or 100cm and will be accepting emailed proof of results.  Please email your results to katewalters@holnest.com and in return Kate will email you your qualification card.  You will not be able to enter the final without your qualification being logged with Kate.

Please note we will not be accepting results for Arena Eventing or Express Eventing.

Please remember that the owner or rider do not have to be a member of the BCPS in order to qualify but will be required to be a member in order to compete at the finals.

To qualify your pony must be a pure-bred or part-bred Connemara registered with, or in the case of imported ponies, overstamped by the BCPS and listed on the UK database.

We accept qualifications for four height sections: 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and 100cm. You can qualify by either:

Being placed in the top 10 of your section; or

By achieving ONE double clear at the height you wish to enter the finals
